On Tuesday, October 11, the Public Affairs Section held its first Taekwondo clinic as part of the Cultural Affairs Office’s Sports Diplomacy Program. 25 Iraqi athletes, aged 8 to 15, and their five coaches participated in this event which included over two hours of intense training in Taekwondo, Karate, and mixed-martial arts techniques.  Four volunteer U.S. trainers from the U.S. Embassy’s Martial Arts Association led the training.  All of the U.S. trainers are certified instructors and have multiple black belts from the American Taekwondo Association.  Two of the trainers are also World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) certified trainers and have competed around the world.  Immediately following the training session, PAS hosted a pizza party for the participants where they were able to relax, play some games, and interact with Embassy employees.
