Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs)
The last Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Iraq closed on September 6, 2011, ending a program that began on November 2005 with the opening of the Mosul PRT. The PRTs made significant contributions in the fields of agriculture, economic development, education, essential services, health, rule of law, governance, and security. Although the PRT program in Iraq has officially closed, the U.S. Embassy’s commitment to the provinces will continue through a diplomatic presence in Basrah, Erbil, and Kirkuk, to be supplemented in the near future by new websites in English and Arabic for each of these three posts.
