The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and Multi-National Force-Iraq strongly condemn the multiple bombings, including one against the Foreign Ministry, that took place this morning in Baghdad. The horrific injuries and loss of life witnessed in Baghdad today are terrorist attacks that serve no legitimate purpose.  They will not deter Iraqis from continuing their efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous society and engage the international community, nor will they weaken our resolve to help them in their efforts.

An attack on a diplomatic facility and all those working for peaceful relations through dialogue and diplomacy is an attack on the entire international community.  This is a deliberate attempt to undermine Iraq's effort to re-integrate itself as a responsible member in the international community.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton two days ago stated that those individuals or groups responsible for such horrific acts  be pursued and brought to justice in accordance with Iraqi law.

We will continue to support the people and government of Iraq in combating all forms of violence. We mourn the senseless loss of life and extend our condolences to the victims’ families, friends, and community.
