Joint Statement By Ambassador Christopher R. Hill and General Ray Odierno On Final Provisionary Results of Elections

The Embassy of the United States and U.S. Forces – Iraq congratulate the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on completing the counting of the votes in the March 7 Parliamentary elections. With today's announcement, Iraq successfully passed another milestone in this historic electoral process. We support the findings of international and independent Iraqi observers, who have affirmed their confidence in the overall integrity of the election and have found that there is no evidence of widespread or serious fraud. We urge all political entities to use IHEC’s established mechanisms to register complaints and appeals and to accept the results when certified by Iraqi judicial authorities. We encourage all political entities to conduct talks on the formation of the new government in a spirit of cooperation and respect for the will of the voters, and to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric or action.
