The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, in partnership with and at the request of the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, hosted a conference for fifty representatives from Iraqi cultural non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Baghdad January 18-19, 2012.  Discussions took place both in person and via digital video conference with American and Iraqi speakers on a variety of topics focused on NGO management.  These topics included volunteerism, the nuts and bolts of running an NGO in Iraq, fundraising, grant writing, as well as an insider’s view to the Embassy’s cultural program priorities.  Selected by the Ministry of Culture because of their enthusiasm, community activism, and regional diversity, participants welcomed the opportunity to grow professionally, increase the sustainability of their organizations, and network with one another and officials from the U.S. Embassy’s cultural affairs office.
