Ministry of Justice Day
Ambassador Hill hosted lunch at his residence July 8 for Minister of Justice Dara Noor Al-Deen Baha' Al-Deen and seven officials from the Ministry.
At the conclusion of the meal, Minister Dara spoke about the “humanitarian and spiritual relationship” between the United States and Iraq and expressed appreciation to the U.S. for freeing Iraq from Saddam’s regime. He said he hoped the bilateral relationship would strengthen in the field of justice and that the next gathering would take place in an Iraq free of foreign forces, capable of protecting the rights of the Iraqi people with its own security services. Minister Dara later addressed the embassy’s Rule of Law Community Forum, at which he told an overflow crowd that the Ministry of Justice continues to suffer from internal corruption, a lack of computer equipment and training, and inadequate office buildings.
