From October – December 2011, the Public Affairs Section will have Martial Arts clinics for Taekwondo coaches as part of the Cultural Affairs Office’s Sports Diplomacy Program. Almost 10 taekwondo coaches, from various government and private martial arts clubs are already participating in these clinics.  The clinics occur weekly at the U.S. Embassy and include three hours of intense training in Taekwondo, Karate, and mixed-martial arts techniques.  The clinics are taught by volunteer U.S. trainers from the U.S. Embassy’s Martial Arts Association.  All of the U.S. trainers are certified instructors and have multiple black belts from the American Taekwondo Association and/or World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).  Both the American and Iraqi martial artist will participate together in a martial arts exhibition early next year. For more information, or if you are a Taekwondo coach and would like to participate in this program, please contact the Cultural Affairs Office at IraqCulturalAffairs@State.Gov.
