Legal Permanent Residents

Lost/Expired/Mutilated Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) Cards

The renewal of legal permanent resident cards is under the authority of United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) only.  There is currently no USCIS presence in Iraq.

If you have lost your LPR card, or it has expired, the Embassy may be able to issue a transportation letter to facilitate your return to the United States, if you have been out of the country less than 12 months.  However, you must meet certain criteria to qualify.

Please schedule an appointment via e-mail to: BaghdadIV@state.gov

You will need to present the following documentation:

  • Your passport to show your exit and entry stamps to the United States.
  • All previously-issued passports, if available.
  • Police report regarding the lost or stolen legal permanent resident card and/or passport.
  • All documents relating to your legal permanent resident card.
  • Evidence that you have been out of the United States for less than 12 months.
  • Three passport photos (see photo requirements).
  • Payment for the transportation letter or determination of returning resident status (see Fees)
