  • U.S. Embassy and Ministry of Culture Launch Iraq Cultural Heritage Project

    (October 27, 2008) On October 20, 2008 Iraq’s Minister of Culture Dr. Mahier Dahli Ibrahim Al-Hadithi and Minister of State for Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Qahtan Abbas Nu’man Al-Jibori joined the Department of State’s Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Goli Ameri and U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker to launch the Iraq Cultural Heritage Project (ICHP) at the Iraq National Museum in Baghdad.

    (September 8, 2008) The Iraq National Museum houses one of the finest collections of Mesopotamian artifacts in the world. The museum has a long history of being closed during times of war and social unrest, with its doors being permanently sealed in 2006, which left the collections in various states of storage.

    (March 10, 2008) Embassy Baghdad hosted an International Information Programs speaker, Dr. Steven Livingston, Professor of Media, Public, and International Affairs at The George Washington University, who conducted a series of media training sessions for almost 70 Government of Iraq officials and 50 Iraqi journalists between February 28 and March 2.
