On behalf of the government and people of the United States, we condemn in the strongest possible terms today’s attack on Iraq’s Council of Representatives facility and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and injured.
Those killed in today’s heinous act of terrorism are heroes who devoted themselves to selflessly building a better society for the people of Iraq. These terrorists targeted the Council of Representatives – a constituent legislative assembly that embodies the hopes and aspirations of all Iraqis seeking a better future. This cowardly attack is an attempt to undermine the efforts of all who are working to build a peaceful, unified, and stable Iraq. It will not succeed.
We pledge to continue working with the Government of Iraq and Coalition Forces in pursuing the criminals who commit these atrocities against the Iraqi people and their democratically-elect government.
