The U.S. Embassy is seeking a person for the position of Economic/Commercial Assistant in the Regional Embassy Office in Al-Hillah/ Iraq.
Note: Actual hiring will be effected at the grade appropriate to the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
Serves as the Regional Office’s principal Economic and Commercial Assistant, to include trade development and performs a variety of duties in the field of economics, including factual and analytical reporting. Serves as the principal liaison with the U.S. and the international/regional business communities in the South-Central Region. At U.S. Regional Embassy Office, Al-Hillah, the commercial program is the responsibility of the Department of State
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Each applicant must address each selection criterion detailed below specifically and comprehensively, in addition to submitting a CV/résumé.
1. Some university studies are required.
2. Level 4 (Advanced Professional Proficiency) Speaking/Reading English and Arabic are required.
3. Must have a minimum of 1 year work in business management and marketing or as a researcher, translator, analyst, interpreter, or liaison officer in a university, NGO, or with an economic research institution (governmental or non-governmental). Must have at least 6 months’ experience in assembling, analyzing, and reporting economic and marketing information and 6 months’ experience coordinating and liaising with a variety of local and/or national organizations, institutions, and/or government offices. Experience may be concurrent.
4. Good working knowledge of Iraqi South-Central’s economic, commercial, and investment environments and legislative practices is required.
5. Ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of contacts in government and private sector circles is a must. Ability to carry out relatively complex research projects and prepare precise, accurate factual and analytical reports is required. Must demonstrate computer proficiency, including familiarity with spreadsheet database programs such as Excel.

• Management will consider nepotism/ conflict of interest, budget and visa status in determining successful candidacy.
• Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
• Must be eligible to receive a security clearance certification.
• Under PSA-Plus guidelines, non-host country citizens (American and foreign nationals) must have a host country visa status, which will permit them to obtain work.
