2011 Civic Education and Leadership Fellowship
April 4, 2011
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is pleased to announce the Civic Education and Leadership Fellowship opportunity for Iraqi academics in the social sciences. The fellowship provides an opportunity for professors at Iraqi universities who teach and conduct research in the social sciences to engage in 4-month residencies in the U.S. The program includes both group seminars and individually tailored components for each participant. The Civic Education and Leadership Fellowship program, like all U.S. Embassy academic exchange programs, supports the goals of the U.S. –Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement by fostering long-term cooperation between U.S. and Iraqi academics and providing a life-changing opportunity for Iraq’s leading academics to experience the United States first-hand. promote democracy and international standards in social science education at the university policy level;
enhance the quality of civic education through improved curricula development and delivery, increased institutional capacity, and expanded student and faculty engagement;
fully develop the critical thinking and analytical abilities needed by educators.
The program will take place at Syracuse University - Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, beginning in September 2011. The Fellowship program will cover all international and domestic travel, health insurance, housing in shared apartments, and a moderate living stipend in the United States for all Fellows participating in the project.
